CCEA (the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment) is a non-departmental body funded by and responsible to the Department of Education. CCEA puts learners at the centre everything it is responsible for. CCEA is a key organisation in the education sector, providing research and advice to DE; delivering assessment arrangements for primary and post primary schools; supporting teachers in delivering the NI Curriculum; provides GCSE, GCE and other courses to local schools and colleagues and acts as qualifications regulator on behalf of DE , accrediting a range of qualifications for use in Northern Ireland.
CCEA has two Directorates : Education and Finance and Corporate Services, each area has discrete business units which are sub-divided into operational teams. CCEA employs approximately 300 staff and contracts approximately 5000 practising teachers and other professionals in line with a mandatory code of practice. CCEA also has a Regulation Unit which is responsible for the regulation of all qualifications in Northern Ireland.
CCEA has a ministerially appointed Council, comprising of a Chairperson and 13 members, and was recently reconstituted in February 2021, with the appointment of a new Chair and 7 new members. The Council is supported by the work of 4 main committees; Education; Regulation; Finance and Audit & Risk Assurance, each chaired by a Council member. Why the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment is supporting Boardroom Apprentice
We were successful in hosting a Boardroom Apprentice during 2021/22 and 2022/23 which was a very rewarding experience for all members.
We believe that this organisation could provide an apprentice opportunity to learn and participate in strategic discussion on issues affecting the future of children in Northern Ireland as well as to see the effective operation of governance arrangements.
We also have a number of Council members who have experienced Boardroom Apprentice as either an apprentice or sponsor body and they are very supportive of CCEA participating in the scheme.
