Developing Healthy Communities (DHC) is a charitable organisation that focuses on promoting health and wellbeing and tackling health inequalities, by working strategically across sectors to address the socio-economic determinants that impact upon health.

DHC aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes of individuals and communities through delivery of a diverse range of programmes in partnership with other community groups, statutory agencies and healthcare providers See Developing Healthy Communities NI (dhcni.com)

DHC’s portfolio of projects range from delivering Health at Work programmes, mental health/suicide prevention training, supporting families bereaved by suicide, building community capacity for health, supporting the ACORN Farm (Sustainable Food project) and leading the Derry and Strabane WHO Healthy City initiative.  We also work closely with Ulster University as part of the Ideas Fund to match academics to community groups to address mental health projects.

Why Developing Healthy Communities is supporting Boardroom Apprentice

I believe securing a Boardroom Apprentice will offer DHC several benefits including bringing a fresh perspective, diverse knowledge, skills and experience, support to Board processes such as adherence to governance, administration, undertaking small research projects which are aligned to the work of DHC and contribution to strategic planning and performance management.

Benefits for the Apprentice will include enhancement of their skills and confidence in working with a Board, receiving coaching, and mentoring from Board and CE, widening and deepening their knowledge of a charitable organisation working within the realm of health improvement.
