LocatED is an arm’s length body to the Department for Education and exists to provide property advice to the department and to schools, multi-academy trusts, further education colleges and other educational bodies.
LocatED helps solve complex property challenges including:
• securing and disposing of sites at the best market price
• managing sites held by the Secretary of State for schools
• advancing estates efficiency and decarbonisation programmes
• providing a commercial property consultancy service to the department’s policy areas
• delivering school-led, mixed-use developments.
LocatED has a deep understanding of both the commercial property market and the education sector, allowing it to deliver value-for-money to the taxpayer, and create value for the public estate.
Important to us is how meet our objectives, as we support government’s climate change and sustainability strategies, become a sector exemplar for our wide-ranging work on diversity and inclusion, and contribute positively to the communities in which we work.
Our performance to date since 2017 company launch includes:
• 230 site acquisitions
• Three mixed-use development projects in progress, three completed
• 281 assets managed in a moving portfolio
• £23.6 million savings made on managed assets
• 1,089 advice commissions received
• 138,906 school places delivered for the future
• £131 million in capital receipts from disposals
Why LocatED is supporting Boardroom Apprentice
Property is a profession and industry lacking in diversity. LocatED punches above its weight in outcomes of work it does as a whole to improve and increase pathways for diverse groups and to create awareness of the many jobs that are available in property and construction.
We work with many partner organisations to ensure that the profession better represents the communities it serves (property is everywhere!) by creating opportunities for all to get involved, regardless of background. This lack of diversity is also present in the property support functions and also the NED cohorts we see – as such, we want to use the scheme to be able to provide ALL property and built environment professionals across the piece, perhaps at an earlier stage in their careers, and who are inspired to get involved in boards to make a difference and bring diversity of thought, the opportunity to participate in what we are delivering.
