We are a local enterprise agency established in 1988 to provide business support to SMEs located in our constituency. We are a company limited by guarantee and are a registered Charity with NI Charity Commission.
As a social enterprise, the company uses effective business principles to deliver real social results and impact. Constituted as a company limited by guarantee, the business is governed by a board of voluntary directors who provide strategic direction to the management and staff. Our directors come from a
range of professional backgrounds and give freely of their time and expertise to support,
guide and challenge the organisation to fulfil our purpose.
As an ISO 9001 accredited business, a high level of quality of organisation and delivery is consistently guaranteed for all our clients.
We have assisted with the start-up and development of more than 2,750 SMEs from the Newtownards area over the
past 30 years. This has included the provision of business advice, training and seminar facilities, business and
financial planning, and access to unsecured loan funding for the businesses.
Ards Business Hub operates from three business parks on the Jubilee Road: Sketrick House, Strangford Park and Nendrum
Park accommodating 69 tenant businesses providing employment to almost 300 individuals.
Alongside offering more than 80,000 square feet of lettable space, ranging from office suites to larger industrial
units, the Hub offers a range of meeting and training facilities for hire in our Sketrick House building.
Why Ards Business Hub is supporting Boardroom Apprentice
We would welcome the opportunity to host a Boardroom Apprentice in 2023/24. We see this an opportunity to help an apprentice to develop their governance skills.
Local Enterprise agencies are a key aspect of the enterprise sector and economic development in Northern Ireland and this opportunity will help an Apprentice to further understand this vibrant sector across Northern Ireland.

Frequency and timing of board/committee meetings
Board Meetings are held bi-monthly, commencing at 1800 hours, lasting approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours.
There are currently four Committees: Business Development, Marketing & Comms; Finance, Audit & Risk; Human Resources & Nominations; and Property.
Committee Meetings are held bi-monthly, commencing at 1730 hours and ending at 2000 hours, depending on the number being held.
All meetings are currently held in person at Ards Business Hub in Newtownards. Occasionally Committee meetings are held by Zoom/MS Teams.
