GAD is a non-ministerial department providing actuarial advice and support to the government and public sector, helping its clients to understand and analyse financial risk and uncertainty for a wide range of contemporary issues.
GAD is a shared service supplier to the government, devolved administrations and public bodies employing more than 200 people across 2 offices (London and Edinburgh), including around 175 actuaries and analysts.

Why the Government Actuary’s Department is supporting Boardroom Apprentice

To provide some additional and alternative viewpoints and insights into our Board, access some capabilities that support some of emerging risk areas e.g. AI, digital, and provide the opportunity for supporting the development of the individual.

Location of Board and Committee Meetings

10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf, London, E14 4PU (One meeting in the Edinburgh office per year- QEH, 1 Sibbald Walk, Edinburgh EH8 8FT)

Frequency and timing of board/committee meetings

About 8 meetings per calendar year with a 30-minute pre-meet followed by a 3-hour meeting (There might be 7 meetings in 2025 due to public holidays, Parliament recess etc. Also, one meeting per year is held as an away day so would be longer than a regular meeting).
