Supporting Communities has worked effectively for 40 years advising, supporting, enabling and ultimately empowering communities in all four corners of our province. As the only independent body in the social housing sector, Supporting Communities can deliver essential services to all sectors of the community at the highest level without prejudice.
We champion tenant and community participation by developing groups, supporting active citizenship and building cohesive communities.
We promote best practice in community participation in Northern Ireland through a grassroots approach to community development, providing tailored support, advice, information and training to new and existing community groups, statutory and voluntary organisations.
We work to empower society through engaged, confident, sustainable and inclusive communities.
Why Supporting Communities is supporting Boardroom Apprentice
Due to the success of our involvement in Boardroom Apprentice in its inaugural pilot year and again in 2020/21 and this current year, the SC Board feel it would be an excellent opportunity to continue to support this excellent and worthwhile initiative. For SC’s Board, Succession Planning is something which is very high on our list of priorities and we see Boardroom Apprentice as a perfect way to encourage and support ‘younger’ professionals or indeed those who feel that they haven’t the necessary skills to become board members. Boardroom Apprentice is also a much needed resource to refresh our sector i.e. VCSE. If SC’s Board can attract an Apprentice with an interest in the work we deliver and has the skill set that our Board is looking for – we would be very open to that person becoming a permanent member of our Board in the future.
Location of Board and Committee Meetings
Obviously this past 3 years Board and Sub Comm meetings have been mostly been held virtually or via hybrid option, however, the Board and Sub Comms have met mostly in the Belfast area. However our Board have recently agreed that they would like to visit more grassroots projects which we are involved in supporting. The SC Board therefore intend to circulate more widely within NI so as to be able to visit the projects which our staff support or are involved in.
